Dickie's Digest - Exponential Ages, Crypto Diets, Marketing Mental Models, and Hidden Gems
Five weekly links exploring the rise of the Full Stack Internet Builder
Hey my friends, happy Sunday.
This is my last bit of internet before I unplug at the beach for the week for the first time in far too long. Luckily, this week’s Digest is packed with enough rabbit holes to last you until next week’s edition.
In this week’s Digest:
Have an epic week,
Dickie
📺💵 Raoul Pal on the Exponential Age. A fascinating thesis from Real Vision’s Raoul Pal that has my head spinning a bit. Listening to it had me sitting on the edge of my seat thinking about the pace of internet development over the next 12-18 months. Crypto, media, commerce, DeFi, monetary policy, inflation, the world reopening, the metaverse - it’s all coming together and happening so quickly. I’m not sure exactly how things will shake out but man, I’m excited to be involved in this space right now. If you give this a watch, hit reply and let me know what you think.
📝📈 Configuring my crypto information diet. Speaking of crypto, I spent the week pruning through just about every crypto periodical out there to try and configure an information stream that keeps me up to date on the big picture while also diving into some of the more niche spaces. I think a lot of people feel overwhelmed with the amount of information out there, so I thought I’d share mine. I subscribed to CoinDesk’s Crytpo Long&Short, State of Crypto, and Money Reimagined for weekly newsletters on the world of crypto. I subscribed to the Into the Ether and The Defiant podcasts for DeFi/Ethereum news. And finally, for a daily newsletter, I subscribed to Laura Shin’s new daily newsletter that is a quick read on the biggest headlines.
🎧💪 The Danny Miranda Podcast. A special shoutout to my boy Danny for hitting 100 episodes of his podcast. I think this is one of the hidden gems of the podcast world, with the tagline “For anyone pursuing their highest version.” This podcast is the best example of consistency leading to an incredible content library. Danny has interviewed some incredible people across all of Twitter and beyond, including Gary Vee and Kevin Kelly. His recent episode with Shaan Puri is also an absolute gem. I highly recommend adding this one to your weekly list.
📖💎 George Mack’s Top 0.1% of Marketing Mental Models. Another pure signal thread from George Mack, this one covering the zero-to-one marketing mental models that once you see, you can’t unsee. I particularly loved “The Law of Shitty Clickthrough Rates.” This is the idea that 80% of the marketing benefits accrue to the 20% of early adopters. From there, it’s all downhill. The first banner ad had a 76% clickthrough rate - now they have about 0.1%. A bunch more marketing gems in here, definitely worth a read.
📖📝 Alex Garcia on How to Write Viral Twitter Threads. Alex Garcia has been absolutely crushing it on Twitter lately, writing viral thread after viral thread (and exploding his following in the process). He writes baller marketing threads that actually provide value for readers, which is why he’s been so successful. This thread was a breakdown of different levers you can pull to increase the virality of your thread. It’s one of those threads I wish I’d written because it put into words so many things I’ve been thinking about. If you write on Twitter, this one is a must-read.
🔥 Last week’s most popular link: 📖 🙏🏼 A simple, life-changing framework: help this person.
I plan on writing a ton about this topic over the next month. The people who will shape our future will be entrepreneurs, investors, and media companies all in one package. And I hope to explore the skills you can develop to become that type of person.
That’s it for this week. As always, I appreciate your time and attention. Shoot anything you find interesting this week my way.
Have an epic week.
