Dickie's Digest - Insane Connections, WeWork, Time Management, Obvious Advice, and Magic States
Hey my friends, happy Sunday.
Two quick things from me this week:
I’ve been hosting a weekly Twitter Space with Alex Lieberman called Builders Build where we interview builders of bootstrapped internet businesses. Episodes are every Thursday at 7 PM EST, live on Twitter. This week’s episode is with Jack Butcher.
Sign-ups are open for the next Ship 30 for 30 cohort. In this cohort, we are capping enrollment at 250 spots and are currently at 191. The first day of shipping is May 10th! If you’re looking to start writing online, we’d love to have you!
That’s it from me. In this week’s Digest:
📖📉 Billion Dollar Loser: The Epic Rise and Spectacular Fall of Adam Neumann and WeWork
🧵🚀 Patrick McKenzie on Advice People Find Too Obvious To Tell You
🔖🕸 How to Become Insanely Well-Connected. You can put every other article and book on managing relationships away and simply read this blog post from Chris Fralic. This piece is full of actionable advice on forming, fostering, and better leveraging your relationships. I loved his follow-up system: storing a one-minute audio note from every meeting with next steps, then setting aside time on Fridays to review those notes and craft follow-ups.
📖📉 Billion Dollar Loser: The Epic Rise and Spectacular Fall of Adam Neumann and WeWork. Few books have grabbed me in the first chapter more than this book on the rise and fall of WeWork. Neumann’s narrative-crafting ability is yet another reason I will never underestimate the power of effective writing and storytelling. I’m switching off between binge-reading the story and watching the Hulu documentary. I highly recommend checking this one out.
📺⏳ Ali Abdaal’s 10 Time Management Tips. 10 actionable tips on time management that I’ve heard and seen 100 times, but are nonetheless worth remembering and revisiting. I’ve been thinking a lot about productivity through the lens of intentionality. To me, I’m being productive when I am doing what I said I was going to do. If every block of time during the day is spent on those things, it’s impossible to end the day dissatisfied. Simple in theory, difficult to execute.
🧵🚀 Patrick McKenzie on Advice People Find Too Obvious To Tell You. I dug this one up from the 2017 Twitter archives after going down the Patio11 rabbit hole. Patrick was writing baller threads before they went mainstream, and this one is no exception. My favorite idea from the thread: “There is no hidden reserve of smart people who know what they’re doing. The world exists in the same glorious imperfection that it presents with.”
🎧🧠 Magic Mind’s Magic State Playlist. I wrote this week’s Digest with this playlist from productivity drink Magic Mind’s official Spotify playlist. The playlist description is “Tunes you into a deep state of productivity, creativity, and consciousness.” Considering I wrote this week’s Digest in a record-setting 39 minutes, this playlist gets a thumbs up from me.

That’s it for this week. As always, I appreciate your time and attention. Shoot anything you find interesting this week my way.
Have an epic week.

Chris Fralic is a gem. Thanks for the recommendation :)
