Dickie's Digest - Feedback Loops, Debates, Colossus, Growth Marketing, and Superpowers
Hey my friends, happy Sunday.
A jam-packed Digest this week to up the quality of your information diet. Let’s get right to it.
In this week’s Digest:
🎧🎡 My conversation with Jay Clouse on the Creative Elements Podcast.
📺💵 The Best Bitcoin Debate Ever Recorded (Anthony Pompliano and Mike Green)
🎧🎡 My conversation with Jay Clouse on the Creative Elements Podcast. I had an absolute blast during this conversation with Jay Clouse. We talked about investing, decision making, writing as the foundation for clear thinking, and how to tighten your life’s feedback loops. Jay also creates one of the highest-quality podcasts out there. This thread does an excellent job summarizing what we talked about.
📺💵 The Best Bitcoin Debate Ever Recorded (Anthony Pompliano and Mike Green). A refreshing, civil debate around the pros and cons of Bitcoin and the future of the digital asset. On the $BTC spectrum, I’m about a 6/10, but I was a 7/10 before this interview. Mike Green lays out some strong points about the concentration of mining power with foreign actors that I had never considered. I’m trying to find thoughtful debates that stress test common $BTC bull and bear cases, and this one surely checks the box.
🎧📈 The Business Breakdowns Podcast. I’ve binge-listened to few podcasts faster than this new podcast from the Colossus podcast network. Every episode is a simple 45-minute breakdown into how a single company makes money. I’ve wanted to start doing this with companies I admire, but it looks like this podcast has done all of the hard work for me. I recommend starting out with the episodes on Shopify and Chipotle.
📒📊Julian’s Growth Marketing Handbook. As I continue to build and scale Ship 30 for 30, I’m looking to better understand the different levers small companies can pull to grow. This handbook from Julian Shapiro is a no-fluff actionable guide to acquiring and keeping customers. It runs through strategy, landing pages, A/B testing, user onboarding, making and running ads, content marketing, everything. It’s dense and one worth taking the time to fully understand. If you’re looking to build and scale something in the future, bookmark this one.
📖 🖼 Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT): Beginner’s Guide. The best primer I came across as I started diving down the crypto rabbit hole. What they are, how they’re used, how they work, how to buy them, and the biggest players in the space, all broken down in one article. Spend 30 minutes reading this and get caught up. The Decrypt website also has a ton of good beginner guides.
🔥 Last week’s most popular link: 🧠Julian Shapiro on how to actually use mental models.
That’s it for this week. As always, I appreciate your time and attention. Shoot anything you find interesting this week my way.
Have an epic week.
