Dickie's Digest - Nora En Pure, Chamath, and 1971
Hey there,
The Digest is PACKED this week, so I’ll keep the introduction short. If you don’t have time to explore all seven of the sections right now, favorite this email and come back to it when you’re bored out of your mind Wednesday at 1pm. If you find anything particularly interesting, you can reply directly to send it my way. Have a safe and epic week!
Everything I'm Exploring This Week
1. This Is Nora En Pure, a playlist by Spotify
Working-from-home means my headphones are in nearly the entire day. I’ve been bumping Swiss DJ Nora En Pure over the past week. Every song is good, but Epiphany is my favorite from the playlist.
2. The Inner Game of Tennis by Timothy Gallwey — Book Notes
This week I finished The Inner Game of Tennis by Timothy Gallwey, a quick, insightful, and practical read. My thoughts and takeaways can be found here and a podcast overview of the book from a few smart people can be found here.
Rating: 8/10 A practical, no-bs book on developing the proper mindset for optimal performance. Gallwey describes the necessity of quieting our hyperactive Self 1 in order to let our naturally performing Self 2 function at its best. Packed with applications towards performance, behavior change, and mental focus, I highly recommend this one.
3. Chamath Palihapitiya
CEO of Social Capital and owner of the Golden State Warriors, Chamath Palihapitya has been giving quality insight into how he sees the world of technology, real estate, and media changing in the next 18-24 months.
I came across him in this episode of the Pomp Podcast, then listened to him again in this episode of the Recode Decode podcast, both of which are must-listens. His Annual Shareholder Letter is also a must-read.
4. WTF Happened In 1971?
This website is a fascinating aggregation of charts showing how the world has changed since the breaking of the Gold Standard in 1971. Nearly every secular trend in income disparity, interest rates, and debt growth can be traced back to this date.
5. NYC Clapping Every Day at 7:00
Since lockdown in NYC began, the city erupts in cheers every night at 7 PM as the front-line medical professionals come off shift. Check out the video below to hear what it sounds like.

6. China’s Technology in handling COVID-19
China and South Korea’s infrastructure for monitoring and testing COVID-19 is incredible. Check out the video below to see it in action and to get a sense of what the US needs to begin doing immediately.

End Note
